On this International Mother Language Day, we highlight the vital importance of mother tongues in preserving cultural diversity, collective memory, and fundamental rights.<\/p>\n

A mother tongue is more than a means of communication; it is the foundation of identity, dignity, and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge. Yet, in many parts of the world, millions of people are denied the right to learn, speak, and teach their language. Linguistic exclusion\u2014often institutionalized\u2014undermines equitable access to education, civic participation, and social justice.<\/p>\n

We call on States to adopt inclusive language policies that recognize and protect minority and Indigenous languages, particularly in education systems, media, and public services. The recognition of linguistic rights is a cornerstone of democracy and social cohesion.<\/p>\n

By valuing every language, we affirm each individual\u2019s right to fully exist within their culture and history.<\/p>\n
