October 7, 2023, will remain etched in the collective memory as a day marked by violence and destruction in the Middle East. One year after the unexpected Hamas attack on Israel, the humanitarian and political repercussions of this devastating conflict continue to be felt. More than 40,000 Palestinian lives have been tragically lost, including thousands of women and children, while the Gaza Strip remains engulfed in desolation and exhaustion.
The International Solidarity Association for Peace expresses deep concern over foreign interventions, particularly Iran’s military support for various armed groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Hashd al-Shaabi, and other factions operating in the region. This support perpetuates the cycle of violence, exacerbating the suffering of civilian populations trapped in this endless conflict.
The risk of regional conflict expansion is real. The rise of armed militias across multiple countries threatens to plunge the entire Middle East into even deeper chaos, undermining diplomatic efforts for peace. If these armed groups continue to act unchecked, the war could extend far beyond Gaza and Israel, endangering international stability.
However, we affirm that the Palestinian civilian population has the right to peace, security, and self-determination. Civilians, already worn down by years of conflict, should no longer serve as bargaining chips in the political and military agendas of these armed groups.
The International Solidarity Association for Peace calls for the immediate release of all hostages and urges intensified international diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful resolution to this crisis. A political solution is more necessary than ever to end the violence and offer the peoples of the region a future based on dignity, security, and justice.
